It has been said that models who are excessively thin should be banned from shootings and fashion shows. The Acadamy for Eating Disorders (AED) states that, "although the fashion industry does not directly cause eating disorders, it does contribute greatly to out culture's perception of beauty." When young girls with an already low self-esteem see these rediculously thin models, they think that they will look "pretty" like that by being skinny. The AED has now demanded that the fasion industry adopts a height-to-weight ratio as a requirement for their models. They hope that this will decrease the rate of patients with anorexia nervosa and bulemia nervosa.

An Overview of Eating Disorders
People with eating disorders are intensely obsessed with their appearance and weight. Three of the most common eating disorders are anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. Almost 20% of patients diagnosed with an eating disorder suffer death, proving that they are very serious. Eating disorders cause many physical effects, such as affecting the heart, blood pressure, the gastrointestinal system, the reproductive system, and much more. For some patients, medication is enough to cure them, but for others, they only make things worse. Eating Disorders are very serious and if found, proffessional help should be sought.

Men Are At Risk of Eating Disorders?
Many people think that only girls get eating disorders, but studies have shown that men too are at risk of eating disorders. Although only 1 million men are known to have an eating disorder, compared to the 7 million women with eating disorders, the amount of men being diagnosed with eating disorders are increasing. Women are also said to "have it easier" than men beacause women with eating disorders recieve more social acceptance than men do. People associate these men with homosexuals and bisexuals, making it more diffucult for them to seek help. Some males develop their eating disorders as a result of a phsychological disorder but some are developed because of their unhealthy eating habits that they begin when participating in competitive sports.
